Solution mining dissolves the potash from the ore by circulating brine through the flooded conventional mine workings 1,000 meters below the surface.

Manitou Springs Resort lies between the Trans-Canada Highway (#1) and the Yellowhead Highway (#16). Little Manitou Lake, SK is 14 miles in length and about a mile wide.

Village of Dafoe, SK
The Dafoe RCAF #5 Bombing and Gunnery School was one of 230 RCAF training bases established from 1939 thru 1945 to train aircrew and ground crew for the war in Europe. The British Commonwealth Air Training Plan brought men from all across Canada, the U.K., Australia, New Zealand for training. By the end of the war, 131,553 aircrew from four nations were trained as well as some 80,000 ground crew. The Dafoe airbase, located about 19 km north of Dafoe, is now a grain farm. Visitors are not allowed past the road. Only one of the former hanger buildings remains and which can be seen from the road. Concrete structures and the remains of some of the runways are visible too. There is a plaque commemorating the site.

Many of the early settlers to the area around Big Quill Lake were of Icelandic origin. - Frank Cameron Museum provides local historical artifacts as well as tourism information and is located in Wynyard. Wynyard Regional Park is the local camping site and is 2 km or 1 mi from Wynyard. The park provides services such as, washrooms, showers, sewage dump station, firewood, a large pond stocked with Rainbow Trout, 1.5 km of hiking trail, and a kitchen with a wood burning stove. There are 22 sites with 15 and 30 amp service available.

South to Echo Valley Provincial Park: Camping facilities - Valleyview and Aspen campgrounds feature 221 campsites, 153 of which are electrified. Both campgrounds have a service centre with hot showers. Lakeview campground is nestled amid white birch and maples on the south side of Echo Lake and has a trailer section with 23 electrical sites and a tenting area with 64 non-electrical ones. There are several group-camping areas in the park. These include two RV group sites with a multiple plug-in power pedestal at each.
