Eastport, Maine Town Line |
Eastport, Maine is the town where - back in the 1930's Roosevelt wanted to 'harness the power of the ocean tides' to create electricity. The project did get a good start - and tthe Gov't. built 4 homes for the engineers on Redoubt Hill (built like fortresses). Something stopped the project and it never got any further - which really is a shame because the hydro plant would be producing tremendous amounts of electricity were it working today. The tides in Eastport run approx. 26' - twice each day - and thats a lot of movement and power. |
