Get off 49 at Broad Street in historic Nevada City and walk back through time to when the California gold rush began. This is a very upscale town, lot's of bed and breakfasts as well as some larger hotels. Shopping abounds.

Goodyears Bar
A quaint small ming town with a good bed and breakfast at the Helm's St. Charles an old stage stop. Continuing on Mountain House Rd dirt but gradedwill bring you to Forest in 10 miles. This is a wonderful and authentic minig town and the views getting there are outstanding.

Highway 49 bridge
This is the only one lane bridge in the california State highway system. Continue North on 49 and you will come to Sierra City, 12 miles and 20 miles to Bassette the gateway to our Lakes Basin.

South Yuba State Park
Go right into the park. The South Yba River is a great place to swim and raft and kayk. Gigantic bouldars and sandy beaches are throughout this park. Lot's of privacy and lot's of wildlife. Take a stroll over the original 49 bridge.

French Corral, Brideport, Pleasant Hill Rd
You will see the well marked exit to your left. Before you take this side trip stop at Peterson's Corner, it is a great old steak house and bar. This road will bring you through smaller towns to Bridgeport State Park, stroll on the covered bridge and enjoy the South Yuba River and beaches there. If you continue through you will end up on Highway 20 in Penn Valley.

Explore this road to Alleghany where you will find the 16 to 1 mine still in operation. they will tour you well below the surface!!!

Oregon Creek Day Use Area
It is beautiful along the creek and there is a covered bridge that you can drive through which has been standing for 100 years.

Along the North Yuba River this entire area teems with riverside camping and great hiking/biking trails.

Camptonville.Bullards Bar
To your left you will see the North Yuba Ranger Station. It is a good place to stop and view local wildlife. Further up the road you will see Bullards Bar Reservior, boating,fishing,swimming and scenery. This Rd (Old Marysville Highway will take you to Highway 20 in Marysville.

Tyler Foote Crossing
Turn right on Tyler Foote and visit North Columbia State Park and Malacoff diggins, a preserved mine. You will get there in approx. 18 miles off 49.

Halls Ranch Road
4 wheel driving in the Sierra's. There are many trails connecting up here, great dirt bike area.

Wheelchair accessable, this 3 mile loop will take you along the South Yuba river.
