Established in 1928, Tule Lake Refuge encompasses 39,116 acres of mostly open water and croplands. Accesses Lava Beds National Monument. Volcanic eruptions over the last half million years on the Medicine Lake shield volcano resulted in an extremely rugged landscape of lava flows, lava tube caves, pit craters, spatter cones, and cinder cones. The more than 500 lava tube caves in the Monument are a favorite underground destination for tourists. |
